About the Journal

The journal InterAção is a periodical of academic and scientific dissemination of the Theory, Art and Politics Group (GTAP), published digitally, of half-yearly periocity, which aims to publish original and exclusive articles on the themes encompassed by the discipline of International Relations, as well as to promote interdisciplinarity, centered around International Relations, and to contribute to the development and dissemination of scientific knowledge produced inside this scope. The journal focuses on the analysis of international relations, in its economical, social, political and legal aspects.

Dossier “Defence and Public Security in the Global South: Governance, Capabilities, Autonomy, and Strategic Management”

 

The 2nd thematic dossier of 2026 aims to bring together interdisciplinary research and reflections that broaden critical understanding of the processes, institutions, and strategic defense dynamics in the Global South.

This dossier seeks to encourage analyses based on empirical data, comparative studies, qualitative and quantitative approaches, as well as theoretical contributions that address the challenges of strategic autonomy and security in peripheral contexts.

Studies addressing, among other topics, will be welcomed:

  1. Models of defense governance and public security in countries of the Global South;
  2. Civil-military relations, democratic control, transparency, and accountability;
  3. Defense industry, military production chains, and technological innovation;
  4. Emerging strategic capabilities: cyber defense, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, armored vehicles, and drones;
  5. South–South military and public security cooperation, strategic partnerships, and defense diplomacy;
  6. Peace operations, international involvement, and foreign policy for defense and public security;
  7. Hybrid threats, terrorism, transnational crime, and maritime security; 8. Environmental and climate security in the context of global transformations; 9. Decolonial perspectives and critical epistemologies on defense and public security;
  8. Regional case studies and international comparisons within the Global South.
  9. Public Security Federalism and Multilevel Governance in SUSP: Federative integration, institutional roles, challenges, and international comparisons.
  10. Protection of Fundamental Rights, Military Citizen Security, and Doctrine of the Progressive Use of Force: Democratic policing paradigms, accountability, and human rights.
  11. Institutional Innovation, Military Professionalization, and Police Science: Military higher education, military legal career, results-based management, and organizational transformation.

 

The dossier will accept scientific articles, essays, case studies, interviews with specialists, and reviews of recent works (from the last two years) relevant to the field of Defense and International Security Studies.

Submissions will be accepted in Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English.
