This article aims to present the initial results of the research “The Discursive Production in the Teaching Area of Knowledge: What Does the Archive Tell Us?”, approved under the FAPERGS Notice 07/2021 Gaucho Researcher Program – PqG. The objective is to investigate the discursiveness produced in the scopes of the journals of the Teaching Area of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - Brazil (CAPES) from 2011 to 2021. The main theoretical-methodological adopted is the archival procedures within the scope of Michel Foucault’s (2008) archeo-genealogical studies. In the first two procedures carried out, it was possible to draw an overview of the academic and professional master's and PhD programs in the Area of Teaching existing in Brazil, identify the list of journals associated with these Programs, as well as the Qualis of the journals linked to these graduate programs. The results show that the Education area of CAPES is shaped by its institutional ties. There are several classificatory procedures: evaluation of the production of PPGE researchers through the Qualis System, differentiation of knowledge into two major scientific modalities—professional and academic—, visibility of scientific production through PAAP and the public data of the Sucupira Platform, continuous creation of new classifications, educational products, theses, and dissertations, among others. However, it is observed that, by pursuing another path of archive production, there is room for new perspectives on discourses—ones not institutionally legitimized in the electronic addresses of the PPGE: journals without ISSN, journals without Qualis, journals that no longer exist, and journals that predate the very Education area of CAPES.
