Based on the legal prerogative of universalizing acess to education, policy initiatives aimed at achieving school inclusion, and equity as a guiding principle for education systems (Brasil, 1988, 2015), this article draws on research data about elementary school graduates from a large city’s educational network. The aim is to analyze the profiles of special education students compared to other students in terms of color or race, gender, and categorical classification, and the effects produced concerning the right to education. The descriptive-exploratory research analyzes data from 2018 to 2021, focusing on students enrolled in four of the thirteen regional education offices that make up the system under study. The results regarding color or race indicate similarities between the two groups of students, those in special education and others. At the intersection of gender and color or race, there are more male special education students recorded in the white and brown categories, differing from the group of other students, which does not show significant differences in these aspects, a finding that aligns with other research indicating, for instance, a predominance of boys in the final years of elementary education.
