The identification of giftedness in women has been less frequent compared to men because the social and cultural influences that attribute an intellectual inferiority to women. This article aims to analyze national and international scientific articles on the topic of overexcitability in gifted adult women, highlighting the evaluation methods and instruments used. The systematic review followed the PRISMA guidelines with time frame from 2004 to 2024. The databases consulted were the Institute of Education Sciences (ERIC); Oasisbr; CAPES Journals Portal; Science Direct – ELSEVIER; and the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO). The search terms used in Portuguese were: altas habilidades, superdotação, sobre-excitabilidade, adultos; and in English: high abilities, giftedness, overexcitability, adult. Seventeen (17) studies were found of which three were included for analysis. It was identified that the methods used in these studies were quantitative, longitudinal, and correlational. Predominantly, the sample of women identified with giftedness was smaller than the men. In both groups, participants had already been identified with the condition during childhood or adolescence. Regarding the instruments used to evaluate overexcitability, the Sensory Profile and the Overexcitability Questionnaire II (OEQ-II) were applied. Data analysis revealed the need for updated studies on the theme as well as the assessment of overexcitabilities in adult women with late identification of giftedness.
