Abstract

The present study aims to identify different geomorphologic risksituations and assess the superficial dynamics processes that initiate theseprocesses, in Vila Bilibio, Santa Maria city, Rio Grande do Sul state southernBrazil. Methodologically, a socio-environmental survey of the studied area was carried out, through field interviews, identification, and analyses ofprocesses that cause these risks had been accomplished in two stages, alsoon field. It was verified that the lower baseline more susceptible to flooding/overflow, the second baseline composed by valleys is subject to massgravitational movements and the upper baseline presents lessgeomorphologic risk but one habitation presenting sections and earthworkin embankment with high slope. 27% of the housing present high risk offlooding/overflow and 33% of the housing extreme risk of sliding. It mustbe highlighted that men is the main risk agent in Vila Bilibio, due to theoccupation of adverse areas and for modifying the sides through sectioningand earthworks. However, measures to be taken should be working towardseducation concerning the local environment preservation and rearranginglocal people.
