Abstract

The whole understanding of a terrestrial ecosystem requires a refined knowledge of the landforms. Considering the synthetic concept that the geomorphons approach produces, the objective of this research was defined. The aim was to characterize the landforms (geomorphons) in the Parque Estadual do Turvo, in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. Therefore, data from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) “SRTM Plus” was used. Initially, geomorphological analyses were conducted on elevation, slope, curvatures, and orientation. In the sequence, geomorphons (r.geomorphons) were determined, and inspections of relief units were conducted using topographic profiles. The results showed a great altimetric amplitude, a predominance of associations between hills, and the presence of scarp lines. In the higher regions, there tend to be areas of hills and gentle relief. In relation to geomorphons, there was a predominance of the slope element, represented by the slopes with strong inclinations, of concave-divergent curvature in the associations of hills. As for the relief elements, seven types were identified: Peak, Crest, Secondary Crest, Slope, Ditch, Valley, and Concavity.
