The Teaching of Geography: an interrelationship between Geography and Cartography

The teaching of Geography is being center of many debates and critics, because the prevalence of the traditional practice is verified in most of the teaching institutions. However it is important to mention that this problem has been stimulating some professionals of the area look for new methodologies to render the importance of that discipline in the individual's formation, with classes that are more than transmission of information, or the description of the places, or the memorization as fundamental exercise. Another discipline becomes, then, allied in this process, aiding the Geography in the representation and analysis of the geographical space: the Cartography. But often happen a negligent of the cartographic knowledge on the part of the teachers.
