The interpretation of Schopenhauer of the Christianity

This article aims to analyze and interpret the thought of Schopenhauer about Christianity. Like every religion, Christianity has, according to the thinker, "two faces, one very friendly and one very obscure" (P/P II, p. 425). The first of these includes, for the philosopher, the lessons of "charity, generosity, love of enemy, resignation and self-denial of the will, which in the West, are understood completely as Christian doctrines" (P/P II, p. 428). The second face, according to the author, includes the "priestly cunning", namely the identification of myths with the literal truth, the lack of animal ethics in this religion, the substitution of ethics for statutory religious ceremonies and violence against other religions, philosophy and knowledge, among other things. Contribute to the distinction of both sides of Christianity, respect for the first and sublimation of the second, with the proposed approach, is among the main objectives of this article.Downloads
