Abstract

The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of a multidisciplinary teaching in swimming on the performance of motor and aquatic abilities of children. Thirteen children, 8.24 ± 0.74 years old, have participated of 16 swimming classes of 45 min twice a week. The classes had the purpose an aquatic initiation with a diverse exploration of aquatic abilities of swimming, artistic swimming, water polo and diving. The performance of motor abilities was evaluated by tests of horizontal jump, throw and static balance, while the aquatic abilities were evaluated using a verification list. After the intervention, participants improve their balance with closed eyes and aquatic abilities, without changing horizontal jump and throw performances. Therefore, the multidisciplinary teaching in swimming is possible and supports a diverse aquatic abilities development.
