The paper aims at a possible clarification for Schopenhauer’s assertion according to which the Will only is the Real thing, a thesis first publicized in The will in nature that would require several changes in his opus magnum once it turns into the ultimate demarcation line between his own thought and his predecessors’. This problem led us to take an account of the relation between Schopenhauer and Kant for the sake of finding out the very meaning of that thesis and some features of the critique raised by the former towards the latter. By these means we also highlight many new passages not to be found in the 1819’s edition of The world as will and representation, besides a careful account of the Zusätzen on his own private issue.
