Abstract

This research aims to verify if variables such as sector, agroindustrial system and region are related to the economic and financial performance of agricultural cooperatives. For that, we used mean difference tests in the data of 31 agricultural cooperatives in the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul in the years 2008 to 2012. As a result, it was observed that cooperatives perform Economic and financial variables, and that the selected variables may affect their results. When the sample was stratified by region, the indices of profitability, value added and general liquidity showed a significant difference. When the sector is analyzed the statistical differences are found in the indexes of value added, which is in agreement with the literature. The agroindustrial system was the factor that led to greater differences in the indices analyzed. In addition, it was verified that the cooperatives are homogeneous with respect to the capital structure.
