Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a limiting respiratory condition, which results in progressive symptoms for those who have it. Yoga, a therapeutic modality developed through asanas and pranayama, has already been shown to be efficient in the treatment of several diseases, presenting a good potential to aid in the management of COPD. This study aimed to systematically review the literature about the effectiveness of Yoga on the functional capacity of individuals with COPD. For the development of this review, randomized clinical trials were selected that investigated the effects of Yoga compared to other forms of physical exercise and / or control group in COPD patients, found in the MEDLINE databases via PubMed, LILACS, ScienceDirect, and the Cochrane Library, until October 2020, in Portuguese, English and / or Spanish. This review followed the recommendation of Preferred Reporting items Systematic Rewiew and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) and the methodological quality of the studies was assessed by the PEDro Scale. Of the 242 articles identified, 7 were selected for analysis. The studies were carried out in the United States, India and Indonesia, and published between 2009 and 2019. Only 1 study was classified as having low methodological quality, while another 3 were classified as having medium quality, and 3 as having high methodological quality.Outcomes offunctional capacity, where the GY from 4 studies showed a more relevant evolution in the performance of the 6MWT compared to the CG, quality of life, fatigue and dyspnea were presented, among others. In conclusion, the discrepancy in the methodological quality and in the interventions used by the studies made it impossible to carry out a meta-analysis. Despite the favorable outcomes of the Yoga Groups in relation to the Control Groups in most of the variables evaluated, t studies studies with more homogeneous data and greater methodological rigor are needed to prove the effectiveness of Yoga practice in the treatment of COPD.
