Eight individuals aged 34 to 57 years were evaluated. Participants were divided into two groups, a group of patients with cerebellar ataxia (n = 4) and a healthy control group (n = 4). Firstly, the simple tasks were performed: gait, cognitive task, and cognitive-motor task. Afterwards, the dual tasks were performed, where the gait was associated with the cognitive task and cognitive-motor task. The gait evaluation was done through a three-dimensional gait system and the evaluated variables were velocity, cadence, step width, stride length, stride time and double support time. Results: Changes in the ataxic’s kinematics gait were found compared to the hygid, but without significant difference to most variables. Only the strid length showed a significant difference between the groups during the dual cognitive task. In dual tasks, the ataxic performed worse, with slower gait, larger base, shorter strid and slower double support. Due to performance variation, the dual cognitive-motor task was more impacted on the ataxic's kinematics gait and the healthy group. Final Considerations: There are changes in gait kinematics parameters in hygid and ataxic participants when added a dual task, whether cognitive or cognitive-motor, with greater performance variation in ataxic participants. The study suggests the changes found in gait aims to establish the balance of ataxic participants when inserted a dual task, reducing the chances of falls.
2025-09-09T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Carina Soares da Veiga, Laura Naiane Prandini Menegon, Fernanda Trubian, Laura Buzin Zapparoli, Leandro Viçosa Bonetti, Raquel Saccanihttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/84678Perception of fair fair workers on skin cancer and photoprotection habits2026-03-02T19:09:07-03:00Fernanda Dantas Silvafernandadantas0302@gmail.comLucas Cruz Torreslucascruztorres@hotmail.comGislayne Tacyana dos Santos Lucenagislaynetacyana@gmail.comKarla Brehnda Cabral Liberatobrehndacliberato@gmail.comDandara Dias Cavalcante Abreudandaradias@hotmail.com
Introduction: Skin cancer consists of abnormal growth of the cells that make up the skin. The leading cause for the appearance of this pathology is excessive and unprotected sun exposure. As a result, fairground workers will have more risk factors for acquiring skin cancer. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the perception of fairground workers about skin cancer and photoprotection habits. Method: Refers to a descriptive study with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Results: Respondents had a good perception of skin cancer and its severity. Most consider that sun exposure is a risk factor and that the work environment in which they are inserted provides greater chances of developing skin cancer. Regarding the importance given and use of photoprotection practices, most consider it important and the most used photoprotection method was clothing with a protection factor or long. Conclusion: There is a need for greater incentives for the use of photoprotective methods for this risk group. In addition, future studies should randomly and systematically explore the photoprotection habits of fairground workers.
2025-08-29T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Fernanda Dantas Silva, Lucas Cruz Torres, Gislayne Tacyana dos Santos Lucena, Karla Brehnda Cabral Liberato, Dandara Dias Cavalcante Abreuhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/86380Factors associated with concern about body image in students at a brazilian public university2026-03-02T19:09:05-03:00Adrieli de Fátima Massaro Levoratoadrieli.massaro@hotmail.comCamilo Molino Guidonicamiloguidoni@gmail.comArthur Eumann Mesasarthur.emesas@uclm.esMarcela Maria Birolimmarcelabirolim@hotmail.comRenne Rodriguesrenne2r@gmail.comGiovana Frazon de Andradegiovanafrazon@hotmail.comEdmarlon Girottoedmarlon78@gmail.com
Objective: To verify the factors associated with concerns about body shape among university students, stratified according to sex. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. The population was made up of 3,177 undergraduate students from a university in southern Brazil with active enrollment in 2019 and aged 18 years or over. Data such as the month of diagnosis, age group, microbiota, infectious agents, and conclusions of the cytopathological exam results were computed. Results: During the study period, 1,882 exams were evaluated; 1,193 conducted between January and December 2022, and 689 from January to July 2023. Regarding the UBS where these services were provided, the majority occurred at UBS 2 (18.86%, n=355/1882), followed by UBS 1 (18.17%, n=342/1882). Regarding age groups, the prevalent one was 40 to 49 years (23.91%, n=450/1882), followed by 50 to 59 years (21.62%, n=407/1882). As for the epithelium, 46.86% (n=882/1882) presented squamous and glandular epithelium, and 25.55% (n=481/1882) squamous. Concerning microbiota, 49.49% (n=931/1882) did not have this information in the result, however, the lactobacilli category represented 25.34% (n=477/1882). Among the conclusions of the reports, the majority was within normal limits (63.44%, n=1194), followed by inflammation (21.15%, n=398/1882). Additionally, 11.21% (n=211/1882) of the patients presented some infectious agent, among them: Gardnerella vaginalis (82%, n=173/211), Candida sp. (16.1%, n=34/211), and Trichomonas vaginalis (1.9%, n=4/211). Final Considerations: These results provide insight into the local epidemiology of cytopathological examinations in the extreme west of Santa Catarina. The alterations found emphasize the importance of proper monitoring and treatment of patients, with few cases of lesions, but the presence of some inflammatory agents or indicators of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The elderly were grouped into two groups: Group with COVID-19 and Group without COVID-19. Anamnesis, blood pressure measurement, body composition, electrocardiogram at rest for 10 minutes for analysis of heart rate variability (HRV), stand up and sit test (TLS30s), and time up and go (TUG) were performed. Results: In cardiac autonomic modulation, we observed a reduction in the SD1, SD2 and Alpha 1 indices in the COVID-19 group and an increase in the Alpha 2 index. Functional tests showed no significant difference. Only the fat percentage (PG%) showed a significant difference between the groups, the COVID-19 group showed a higher (PG%) compared to the group without COVID-19. All groups were considered overweight. A negative and significant correlation was identified between PG (%) and systolic blood pressure (r=- 0.428, p=0.003). Conclusion: SARS-COV-19 seems to affect variables of cardiac autonomic modulation, such as the decrease in nervous activity parasympathetic. Sitagliptin (25 mg/kg) or saline was administered daily via gavage for 13 weeks post-surgery. Bone histomorphometry of the right tibia assessed structural (BV/TV, Tb.Th, Tb.Sp, Tb.N), remodeling static (OS/BS, O.Th, ES/BS) and dynamic (MS/BS, MAR, BFR/BS) parameters. DPP4 gene expression in the right femur was analyzed using RT-qPCR. Statistical analyses included ANCOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests (p<0.05). Results: Sitagliptin mitigated bone resorption in OVX-S compared to OVX. Structural parameters showed lower BV/TV and Tb.N, and higher Tb.Sp in OVX and OVX-S versus SHAM, SHAM-S, and control, with OVX-S having smaller Tb.Sp than OVX (p=0.012). Static parameters indicated higher OS/BS in OVX-S versus SHAM-S (p<0.04). Dynamic parameters revealed that the ovariectomized (OVX) group demonstrated greater number of fluorescent labels and therefore a higher mineralized surface (MS/BS) than the OVX-S (p<0.01), indicative that sitagliptin effectively mitigated increased bone resorption associated with hypoestrogenism. Dynamic parameters also revealed greater BFR/BS in OVX compared to all groups (p<0.001). DPP4 expression was significantly lower in OVX-S and SHAM-S versus OVX (p<0.01). Conclusion: Sitagliptin reduces bone remodeling in hypoestrogenic states, likely by decreasing resorption, as shown by histomorphometry and reduced DPP4 expression, suggesting its potential to prevent bone loss in conditions like menopause.
2025-10-03T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Luciana Muniz Pechmann, Vicente Florentino Castaldo Andrade, Thais Andrade Costa Casagrande, Rafaela Ceron, Leticia Capote dos Santos, Edneia Amancio de Souza Ramos Cavalieiri, Gabriela Casani Cardoso, Regiane Stafim da Cunha, Carolina Aguiar Moreirahttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/74437Sociodemographic and nutritional factors: comparison between pregnant women served by the public and private health sector2026-03-02T19:04:20-03:00Letícia Vitória Cunha Silvanutricionista.leticiacunha@gmail.comLahis Cristina Morais de Mouralahismouranutri@gmail.comJoão Paulo Lima de Oliveirajoaopaulolimanut@gmail.comLaudicéia Ferreira Fróislaudiceiafrois@hotmail.comTaynara Suelen de Paulataynara.dipaula@gmail.comDébora Maria Bastos Silvanutrideborambs@gmail.comLílian Gonçalves Teixeiralilian.teixeira@ufla.br
Objective: Investigate the dietary intake of macro and micronutrients of interest, and the quality of the diet of pregnant women assisted by the public and private health sector. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study, carried out with pregnant women receiving prenatal care in Family Health Strategies (ESF’s) and in private clinics in Lavras-MG, Brazil. The variables analyzed were: number of notifications, gender, age and number of deaths. Absolute and relative frequencies were evaluated, followed by the application of the chi-square test of independence, in which p≤0.05 was considered statistically significant. There were registered 65,099 cases of COVID-19 in the state of RN, in which 4,393 affected developed SARS. Male individuals were the most affected (57%) and the age group from 60 years old (57%) was the most prevalent. There was a statistically significant association between men aged 20 to 59 years and women aged 60 years and over (p<0.001). Of the 1,696 deaths, there was higher mortality in males (55.6%) and higher mortality in females (40%). Furthermore, there was a positive association for deaths in those aged 60 years or more and no deaths in people aged 0-19 years and 20-59 years (p<0.001). Thus, it is expected that these data can contribute to the development of strategies aimed at the control and prevention of COVID-19 at the municipal and state level.
2025-08-29T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2022 Saúde (Santa Maria)https://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/88661Complication prevention game for patients in prone position for healthcare professionals2026-03-02T19:09:13-03:00Geraldo Magela Salomésalomereiki@yahoo.com.brDaniel Rennó kallásdanielrkallas@gmail.com
Objective: To develop an educational game to guide healthcare professionals in the technique of positioning patients in the prone position and preventing compilations. Methods: The game was evaluated by 41 professionals (nurses, physiotherapists and doctors) using the Delphi technique and using the Content Validity Index test. Results: The majority of judges considered the game, in the first evaluation, to be between inadequate and completely adequate and the Content Validity Index ranged from 87.80 to 100.00. After surgery, each group was divided into three subgroups (n=10) that received melatonin at 20 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, or placebo via oral gavage for 8 weeks, starting 12 weeks post-surgery. At 40 weeks of age tibiae were collected for histomorphometric analysis. Results: Both 20 mg/kg and 50 mg/kg doses maintained bone volume fraction (BV/TV). The 50 mg/kg dose preserved trabecular number (Tb.N), trabecular separation (Tb.Sp), and significantly decreased eroded surface (ES/BS), indicating preserved bone microarchitecture and reduced resorption. In SHAM rats, melatonin at 50 mg/kg also reduced ES/BS. No correlation was found between body weight and bone parameters. HbA1c levels were significantly lower in OVX rats treated with melatonin at both doses. No significant changes were observed in other biochemical markers or CTX levels. Conclusion: Melatonin, particularly at 50 mg/kg, significantly preserves bone microarchitecture and attenuates bone loss in OVX rats. Its limited effect in SHAM rats underscores its efficacy under hypoestrogenic conditions. The genus Candida represents the main group of yeasts that cause human infections. The use of available antifungals against candidiasis can lead to the development of resistant strains, thus compromising treatment. The aim of this study was to analyze scientific evidence, through an integrative literature review, about the antifungal potential of Moringa oleifera against yeasts of the genus Candida. A bibliographic survey was carried out in the databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), PubMed and Virtual Health Library (BVS / Bireme), using the following descriptors: “Moringa oleifera”, “Candida”, “antifungics” and “Antifungal agents”, with the original and complete articles published in the last 10 years as an eligibility criterion, without language specification and that responded to the research objective. Of the 67 articles found, nine were selected. All the studies analyzed showed that extracts from different parts of M. oleifera have antifungal activity against Candida spp., As well as against other species of pathogens also tested, in addition to their demonstrated low toxicity. Thus, the antimicrobial activity of M. oleiferais highlighted, which places it as a promising source of products to combat fungal infections.
2025-11-27T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Saúde (Santa Maria)https://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/73998Use of spironolactone in the treatment of acne vulgaris in adult women: an integrative review2026-03-02T19:04:13-03:00Edilene Gadelha de Oliveiraedilenegadelha.farmacia@gmail.comAmanda Rodrigues Fernandes Silvaamandafernandes629@gmail.comStephany Osterno Silva Feitozastephanyfeitoza1@gmail.comMalena Gadelha Cavalcantemalenagadelha@hotmail.com
The dermatological area has always been in search of new treatments with proven efficacy and that had antiandrogenic actions for acne in adult women, in the administration of commonly used drugs such as antimicrobials, combined oral contraceptives and oral isotretinoin. The tongue, the anterior region of the palate, and the lips are the most affected sites, and its prevalence is higher among females. Despite a large number of studies, its pathogenesis remains poorly understood, and the discomfort reported by patients can significantly impact their quality of life. Objectives: To present the diagnosis, possible causes, and contributing factors related to Burning Mouth Syndrome. Methods: A search was conducted in the PubMed database in July 2021 using the descriptors “burning mouth” and “syndrome causes.” Results and conclusion: Burning Mouth Syndrome is more prevalent in peri- or postmenopausal women; it is a multifactorial condition, and when associated with the use of medications and physiological xerostomia, it may be a predisposing factor for the burning sensation in the mouth. Its diagnosis is imprecise and is made by excluding other possible causes. When it is associated with a pre-existing medical condition, it is classified as secondary; when the causal factor is idiopathic, it is classified as primary. The symptoms can be alleviated by informing the patient that it is a relatively common and non-serious condition.
2025-09-05T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Laura Goldschmidt Follmann, Bruna Alessandra Copetti Vasconcellos, Karine Anschau Klagenberg, Gabriele Savariz Zilli, Alexandre Dorneles Pistoiahttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/72055Music therapy, a non-pharmacological intervention that can improve the quality of life in patients with Alzheimer's disease: a systematic review2026-03-02T19:04:17-03:00Suélly Krein Heuertsuelly.heuert@gmail.comPétrin Hoppe Tuchtenhagenpetrinhoppe@gmail.comMariane Pivetta Mainardimaripmrd@gmail.comRubens Silva Ramosrubens.ramos@acad.ufsm.brVitor Emanuel Alves Zambardavezambarda@mx2.unisc.brSilvia Virginia Coutinho Areosasareosa@unisc.brMiriam Cabrera Corvelo Delbonimiriamdelboni@gmail.com
Objective: This study aims to describe the results obtained from music/music therapy interventions in patients with Alzheimer's disease. Methods: A literature search was conducted in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and PubMed, using the following terms: "Alzheimer's disease" AND "dementia" AND "music" AND "music therapy" AND "randomized controlled trial" AND "controlled clinical trial." Results: After reading and classifying the studies, this sample contained eight articles that addressed music therapy combined with different tools to determine its effectiveness. In the face of the nearness of death, spiritual needs are expressed through the search for meaning, reconciliation with life, transcendence and hope. Incorporating the spiritual dimension in the approach to patients submitted to this modality of attention is fundamental so that their needs are met. This is an integrative literature review, which used the six recommended steps: selection of the guiding question; sample selection; categorization of studies; evaluation of included studies; interpretation of results; and synthesis of knowledge. The research question was: “what is the scientific evidence present in the literature about the care provided during home care to people with cancer in palliative care?”. The search was carried out in the data base: Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Public Medline, Scientific Electronic Library Online and in the Virtual Health Library, including: articles that portrayed the palliative care at home for cancer patients; published from January/2016 to January/2021; in Portuguese, English and Spanish; with abstracts available. Fourteen articles were included, predominantly qualitative studies, with evidence level 6 and in English. Four thematic categories were established: patient autonomy; nursing performance, creating bonds and preparing for death; impact of home care for patients and the health system; and teleconsultation. Crucial points of care provided during home care were identified, concluding how beneficial home care is, providing greater autonomy and connection between professionals and patients and their families, fewer hospitalizations and improved quality of care at the end of life. It is expected to provide subsidies for the expansion of knowledge and stimulus for the implementation and strengthening of this modality of approach at home care, enabling a more holistic and empathic care.
2025-07-23T00:00:00-03:00Copyright (c) 2025 Larissa Ferreira Miranda, Ana Laura Nogueira, Bethania Ferreira Goulart, Adriana Cristina Nicolussihttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/75354Vulvar porocarcinoma: a scoping review2025-08-11T20:08:11-03:00Rui Toshio Takemoto de Mendonça Alhor.tosh.tma@gmail.comFernanda Kesselring Tsofernandaktso@gmail.comNeila Maria de Góis Specknezespeck@uol.com.br
Malignant vulvar tumors are rare and have mostly killed postmenopausal women.
