Abstract

The literature has shown that sociodemographic factors influence creativity. This study evaluated the effects of gender, education level, region of residence, and age group on adolescents', adults', and elderly's creative potential. A total of 793 participants, ages 14 to 87, of both genders, from the Southeast and Northeast regions of Brazil, were included in the study. The Test of Figural Creativity - adult and adolescent versions (TCF-AA) was administered to participants. Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests showed that gender has a significant impact on idea enrichment and total score, and location of residence has an impact on emotional factor, while education level and age group have a significant influence on all four factors and total. The results confirm the need to take into account the specific sociodemographic characteristics of the population when assessing creativity. This result can help to provide a fair assessment of this skill, as well as a scientific basis for stimulating this skill on different educational levels.
