The COVID-19 pandemic is a non-normative stressful event and a risk to adolescent psychological functioning. However, the risk-protection model posits that this depends on the combination of risks and resources. The objective was to analyze potential risk and protective factors as a function of sex, age and state, in students aged 13 to 21 years in Mexico City and the State of Mexico. The COVID-19 Youth Perception Survey was applied online and consisted of eight factors or areas (e.g., School pressures, Family dynamics, Preventive measures, Change of routines, Virtual socialization, Relaxation) and an informed consent form. Multivariate analyses (MANOVA) showed significant differences in pandemic perception by sex (FRoy=4.155; p ≤0; η=.080), age range (FRoy=4.889; p ≤0; η=.093), and state (FRoy= 3.061; p =.002; η=.060) in fear of contagion, change of routines, and school pressures. There were also sex*status interaction effects (F= 2.281; p=.022; η=.046), and age*status interaction (F=2.748; p=.006; η=.054) as well as sex*age*status effects only on fear of contagion (F=3.147; p=.044; η=.016). In conclusion, females scored higher on all factors than males, especially those aged 16 to 18 years. These findings prove previous findings and could be the basis for intervention programs according to sex, age and status.
