Inclusive education & special education: complementary propositions in the context of a school open to the diversity

Abstract

Inclusive Education has becoming increasingly present in Brazilian Educational discourse, in recent years, based on the motto “Education for All”. In this context, Special Education – that historically has been responsible for the education of people with disabilities, severe learning and /or behavior problems, and high abilities – has gaining greater visibility in the political-educational debates. From this perspective, the present article presents a brief discussion about de process of implementation of Inclusive Education in Brazil, analyzing the concept of Special Educational Needs and the role of Special Education in the mist of this policy. The position presented here, is that the support of Special Education is required for the implementation and success of Inclusive Education in our country.
