Abstract

This work aims to present some characteristics that we consider fundamental for a problem to be considered philosophical. Furthermore, as a consequence, we propose a distinction between philosophical problems based on the characteristics of the different types that exist among them. Given the distinction between the philosophical problems presented, we argue in favor of the importance of reading both classic and non-classic texts in the field in basic education, as our experience has shown. Thus, in the first part of this work, we focus on characterizing a specific type of philosophical problem that, in our judgment, has only recently gained space for discussion and study among philosophers in Brazil. In the second part, we focus more deeply into the proposition of reading philosophical and non-philosophical texts with regular high school classes in a public school in Porto Alegre. It is important to point out here that our proposal is not new in itself, in the sense that no other teacher has ever developed similar teaching practices, but rather because of the identification of the specific characteristics of certain problems in the area and the importance of addressing them in basic education with the help of reading. Our conclusions are based on studies of relevant bibliographic references in the field of Philosophy teaching, as well as on our teaching practices.
