Notes about traditional people’s communities in the border strip Brasil-Uruguai performed in the scope of the Extension Project “Corredores Culturais”
Abstract
This work seeks to bring experience reports, observations and notes made within the scope of the Extension Project "Corredores Culturais", performed by the Extension Program Núcleo Interdisciplinar de Interação Jurídica Comunitária/Residência, from UFSM in 2020 and 2021. The project had as target audience the population of two quilombola communities and an indigenous village, located in the municipality of Aceguá/RS, a “twin” city located on the border between Brazil and Uruguay, which marks them with specific cross-border characteristics. During the work, observations were made about the effectiveness of legislation, international agreements and public policies relating to Uruguayan immigrants, and self-determination as a quilombola. It was found that the existing provisions are partially effective and lack knowledge and motivation from local authorities to implement transnational cooperation.
