Abstract

Due to the lack of research on the effect of irrigation regimes onthe evolution of the muskmelon plant crop leaf area, under hydroponicssystem, it is necessary to investigate the plant growth since the longer leaflife span is, the greater its contribution to the crop yield. The aim of thisstudy is to determine the influence of irrigation intervals on the muskmelonleafs survival time, under hydroponics system. With this in mind, theKaplan-Meier method was performed for survival analysis, and the Logranktest was applied for comparison between curves. It was concludedthat there is no significant difference among the distinct irrigation intervals,despite the fact that the survival probability of irrigated plants submittedto an irrigation period of 15 minutes and interval of 30 minutes is a littlelower than that of plants submitted to an irrigation period of 15 minutesand interval of 15 minutes. Therefore, irrigation periods of 15 minutes andintervals of 30 minutes shall be used as a way to minimize costs involved inthe melon culture. It was observed as well that the type of irrigation doesn’taffect the plant development, since for both types of irrigation survivalprobabilities are similar, and the median survival time is equal to 54,4 daysapproximately.
