Abstract

This article analyzes the appropriation and influence of Māyā concept in Schopenhauer's philosophy during the period of the genesis of his philosophy (1813-1818). Unlike a merely comparative analyzes, our focus is to present a historical-philosophical research of the Early Manuscripts and The World as Will and Representation, as well as to delimit the "Schopenhauerian India" based on the workpieces consulted by the philosopher during that period: Oupnek’hat, Asiatisches Magazin, Mythologie des Indous e Asiatick Researches. Our goal is to demonstrate, chronologically, how Schopenhauer appropriated the Māyā concept, using it in different senses and forms until consolidating its use with the idea of illusion and influencing his Representation theory.
