Assessment of Lifestyle Habits in Pregnant Women

Objective: To describe lifestyle habits of pregnant women older than 18, as well as nutritional status, socio-demographic conditions, food intake, use of supplements, prenatal care, intestinal habit, water intake and physical exercise, knowledge about breastfeeding in different regions of Brazil. Method: This is a cross-sectional study carried in the city of São Paulo from August to November of 2019. An online form was applied, lasting 8 to 10 minutes, filled by the pregnant women who participated in the study, about their life habits. The profile of the 51 participants was analyzed through the evaluated variables. The BMI of pregnant women was calculated from the weight anda heigt reported by the interviewees themselves, and classified accordint to the gestational week they were at time of the research. All legal and ethical premises were considered. Results: Despite the majority having and adequate BMI, obsdity (8%), overweight 25%) anda low weight (14%) were present. The results found a high consumption of high processed foods, but also of fruits and vegetables. Some mothers were given inaccurate information from their doctors about breastfeeding and weaning. Only a small percentage of the interviewed exercises daily. Low constipation levels were observed with a high intake of water and fiber-rich foods. Conclusion: Nutritional monitoring during pregnancy isn’t a great concern. It is necessary that information is disseminated, and that public politics are improved so that a healthy pregnancy development is guaranteed.
