Education, both as a sign and as a formal institution, is a space where there is much dispute. This essay aims to develop some contemporary issues that directly impact the educational field and, therefore, the school. These issues include the neoliberal political-economic regime that determines even the curricula and practices, the loss of experience, which is also manifested in educational institutions and, finally, the official document that emerges as a reflection of the present time, the Brazilian National Common Core Standards (BNCC) as an expression of this current regime. The observation of these three elements demonstrates how they are deeply related. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze to what extent the formative experience proposed by the BNCC, aligned with neoliberalism, results in a loss of education and lived experience. The documentary analysis draws on the BNCC alongside theoretical contributions from Larrosa (2002), Libâneo (2018), Freitas (2014), Benjamin (2017), and Adorno (2000). It is observed that, in the forms of an education oriented towards instrumentalization and preparation for the labor market, there is sometimes no space for the integral formation of the subject, or even for the development of experiences, since the objective and the perception of time in this system make impossible formative practices that escape the utilitarian bias. Rethinking education and critically studying official documents are necessary tasks so that the formative experience does not act more and more as a mere adjustment to the world, but operates formatively, that is, against an overwhelming regime.
