This interview with professor Jefferson Thadeu Canfield was collected by professor Janice Zarpellon Mazo, aiming to record information for the construction of her master’s dissertation, in 1993. The narrative deals with Professor Jefferson’s academic path, initiated at the Physical Education School of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where he completed his initial training, from 1963 to 1966. In such a way, the testimony presented here often brings back memories regarding the experiences lived in this institution. In fact, relationships and/or comparisons are established with the Center for Physical Education and Sports (CEFD) of the Federal University of Santa Maria, where he joined the professor in 1971, in the second public competition for teachers of the Physical Education Degree course at that university. His testimony records representations arising from the founding of CEFD, in addition to noting aspects about his admission with the other six pioneer teachers, who were already working at the institution and about the developments arising from the CEF compositions.
