Abstract

The analysis of the process of initial formation of professors can be developed through different forms like studying institutions, professors, methods, manuals, pupils and also through pedagogical knowledge. That is, the study of what this type of professional must be equipped with in order to assure its good performance and consequently spreading in a more efficient way a cultural knowledge to be shared by the whole society. Thus the study of the subjects prescribed to be taught in the “Escola Normal da Corte”, in 1880, at the moment of its affirmation while the model for the initial formation of primary professors, constitutes a study that looks to observe which knowledge were necessary to this ‘ new ‘ professor, formed by a scholarly model. At the same time, this study has the purpose to analyze the functioning of this School in its initial years, occasion where it intended to constitute itself as the privileged place for the preparation of these professors who would occupy the schools of first letters in the Capital of the Empire.
