“Besides being fagots, what do you two think you’re going to be in life?”: (re)cognition and representation of LGBTQIA+ in teaching

Abstract

Based on studies on gender and sexuality by Berenice Bento, Guacira Lopes Louro, Judith Butler and Michel Foucautl, and on Eduardo Miranda's conception of body-territory, this article discusses the movements of representation, representativeness and (re)knowledge provoked and produced by LGBTQIA+ teachers in Basic Education and which, in some way, (dis)configure images and present other narratives of the LGBT+ body to students. Through the Narrative Interview and the writing of self-portraits, six queer teachers from the state of Bahia tell their life-training-profession stories, focusing on the movements of representation and representativeness of their bodies in school institutions and the reconfigurations of their practices in the face of situations caused by dissident gender and sexuality.  The results indicate that LGBTQIA+ teachers construct their school identities crossed by feelings of fear, anguish and retreat, but also that their corporalities (re)exist and function as support for those who recognize themselves in them and inhabit the body-territory -LGBT+ in teaching.

Doutor em Educação e Contemporaneidade (PPGEduC) pela Universidade do Estado da Bahia (Uneb) com período de estágio doutoral no Departamento de Sociologia da Universidade de Brasília (UNB) e mestre em Educação em Ciências e Matemática (Educimat) pelo Instituto Federal do Espírito Santo (Ifes). Atua como professor de Matemática do Ifes (Campus Vitória) e no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação em Ciências e Matemática (Educimat) . Líder do Grupo de Pesquisa Educação Matemática, Diferença e Inclusão (DevirES. Integrante do Grupo de Pesquisa Docência, Narrativas e Diversidade na Educação Básica (DIVERSO - Uneb), e participa do Grupo de discussão Retóricas do Poder (Gerpor - UnB).
