Education that provides health: nursing role in a hypertensive group

Aim: to understand the importance of educational activities for a group of hypertensive patients. Method: qualitative study with ten hypertensive patients who attended to educational health meetings of a research project at the Federal Institute of Paraná, Londrina, Brazil. Data were collected in December 2012, through semi structured recorded interviews and later submitted to content analysis. Results: two thematic categories emerged: Health education: planting fruit and Health education: reaping fruit. It was observed that patients valued the health education activities in the self-care and prevention of hypertension consequences. Final Remarks: health education becomes essential tool in the work of nursing professionals with the hypertensive patients, aiming especially the prevention of complications arising from the disease and the promotion of wellness and quality of lifeDownloads
