Seldom do we find someone as dedicated to the theater as Barbara Heliodora. Shakespearean, translator, critic, theatrical historian, journalist, teacher and public service manager, Heliodora was, in Hamlet's expression, the abstract and brief chronicle of theater in Brazil. She represented the most important female voice in the Brazilian theater scene over fifty years due to her regularity in public debate, her excellence as a theater critic, her expertise in theater studies and as a translator of theatre books and Shakespeare complete plays. In an effort to preserve Brazilian cultural memory, this essay celebrates the centenary of one who was synonymous with theater in Brazil.
