Configurations of violence in “Espinha de Peixe”, by Mari Vieira

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the manifestations of domestic violence committed against black women and their reverberations in the memories of children who witness the brutal acts in a fictional context. To this end, a bibliographic review based on Davis (2016), hooks (2023), Carneiro (2019), Saffioti (2015), Akotirene (2023), Assmann (2011), Durand (2012) and Le Breton (2016) is used, associated with data from the Institute for Applied Economic Research (IPEA, 2023) - Atlas of Violence. The intersectional condition of women, especially regarding the social axes of race, gender and class, was considered in the critical analyses, as well as the possibility of memories of childhood trauma arising from witnessed violence. It was possible to understand that violence against black women manifested itself primarily psychologically, physically and morally. It was observed that this phenomenon is constituted in the socio-historical aspect that legitimizes the power of men over the female body in a direct relationship with patriarchal logic: in particular, regarding the body of poor black women. It is concluded, therefore, that this phenomenon, when carried out at home, in the presence of children, results in traumas that reverberate in adult life through conscious and/or unconscious emotions that, in turn, can change into violent acts.
