Gender and Justice: John Rawls' theory of justice as fairness in the perspective of Susan Okin's liberal feminism

The development of the feminist movement occurred permeated by dialogues with the intellectual traditions present in political philosophy. In this direction, the present study carries out a reinterpretation of Okin's liberal feminist critique directed to Rawls' theory of justice as fairness. In order to explore the theoretical potential of A Theory of Justice, Okin questioned the non-inclusion of gender neutrality and the neglect of public/private dualism in Rawls' theoretical development. In Okin's perspective, Rawls neglects the family legacy in the distribution of social goods and leverages a political tradition permeated by male domination in political philosophy. In a general context, the Okinian analysis can be understood as a critique aimed at liberal political thought in its entirety, which does not understand gender relations in the emancipation of citizens.
