Abstract

Technological advancements have increased battery consumption, raising environmental and public health concerns due to the improper disposal of these toxic wastes. This article presents the results of an initiative developed by Industrial Engineering students from the Federal University of the São Francisco Valley, Salgueiro-PE campus, within the scope of the project "EcoPilha: Sorting and Reusing Discarded Batteries for Social Benefit", which was responsible for collecting and properly disposing of batteries. During the project, 564 batteries were collected. The reusable ones were donated to underserved institutions, while those unfit for reuse were properly discarded in accordance with current environmental regulations. The initiative contributed to reducing environmental impacts and raising community awareness about sustainable practices.
