Garden at School: the importance of environmental education in childhood

According to the 2019 IBGE, 90% of Brazilian açaí produced comes from the North Region. During the extractive production of the fruit, it is estimated that 85% of its waste, such as fibers and seeds, are discarded, which represents a potential risk to the environment and its final destination.

Therefore, in addition to a more direct agroecological solutions to reduce this damage, Environmental Education is one of the main alternatives to reduce environmental degradation by preparing future generations.

With this in mind, this work published by Ciencia e Natura led training and understanding in connection with homelike vegetable production to municipal elementary schools in the city of Breves Ilha do Marajó, in Pará. Thus, the children were able to take practical lessons from the reuse promoted indoors, which stimulates and further increases the level of ecological knowledge of the city's residents.
