Abstract

The present article elaborates a reflection on ethical questions, having as background the system of the unique thought of Arthur Schopenhauer. The central question is constituted by the philosophical problem of radical evil, a figure of extreme evil, which is rejected as an authentically human possibility in Kant's practical philosophy. The figure of the evil joy (Schadenfreude), as outlined in Schopenhauer's ethics - illustrated in the article with examples of universal literature - exhibits a type of character capable of transcending the limits of selfishness and configuring a mode of pure evil, analogous to the case of radical evil.
