In this paper we approach section 45 of The World as Will and Representation with the intention of reconstructing the context in which Schopenhauer presents the anticipation of the Idea of humanity as condition for its identification in nature and for its reproduction in the works of art whose aim is to depict such Idea. We intend to indicate that the conception of such anticipation comes to the fore only as consequence of the human character’s duality and then highlight that the possibility of this anticipation is restricted to the Idea that corresponds to the highest level of the will’s objectivation.
