Abstract

The article examines the content and results of negotiations among Brazilian labor unions and companies, more specifically, those involving technological and organizational innovations that occurred between 1990 and 2020. I propose this assessment of labor unions’ action at a time when, in Brazil, labor unions are again demanded to adapt themselves due to an innovation wave named “Industry 4.0” or “advanced manufacturing”. This article aims to discuss the clauses negotiated by the unions, which involve technological and organizational innovations, and also identify the obstacles to labor union’s pro-activity concerning issues related to the work process, which is a field of study that still needs empirical research and analytical improvement.
