Abstract

This article aims to understand how the creation of rural condominiums, enabled by the management practices of the Tancredo Neves Rural Producers Cooperative (COOPATAN), can contribute to combating rural poverty, based on the first Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda – the eradication of poverty. COOPATAN is located in the municipality of Tancredo Neves, in the state of Bahia, and acts as an intermediary in accessing the National Land Credit Program (PNCF), facilitating land acquisition and encouraging income generation in rural areas. The methodological basis was a qualitative and exploratory research, materialized in semi-structured interviews with key actors and a document analysis. The results demonstrate that the organization of farmers into rural condominiums, articulated by COOPATAN, promotes increased productivity, improved income, reduced rural exodus, and strengthening of the local economy. The study highlights the strategic role of cooperatives in promoting social justice and combating inequalities in rural areas, reaffirming their relevance as instruments of sustainable development.
