Abstract

Abstract

Appendicial mucinous neoplasms are rare pathologies with nonspecific clinical manifestations and unpredictable biological potential. In most cases, these tumors are discovered after appendectomy and pathological examination of the surgical specimen. Its clinical importance lies in its dissemination potential to the peritoneum in the form of mucinous deposits, characterizing pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP). Laparoscopic appendectomy is routinely performed in appendicitis treatment, but laparoscopy resection is questioned in cases of appendiceal mucocele due to the risk of perforation and subsequent peritoneal pseudomyxoma (PMP). We report a patient case with mucocele of the appendix without rupture (MA) during laparoscopic appendectomy, which evolved with typical peritoneal dissemination of PMP, evidenced in reintervention to perform right hemicolectomy in less than 30 days of primary surgery.
