Assessment of knowledge of the child handbook by nursing academics

Abstract

Objective: evaluating the knowledge of nursing academics about the Child Handook. Method: a cross-sectional study of quantitative nature conducted by means of an online questionnaire between June and July 2023. Fifty-seven academics from the 8th and 9th semester of the Undergraduate Nursing Course at a public university participated. The sample was for convenience and analysis of descriptive data, the two open questions were submitted to content analysis. Results: the audience was composed mostly by women (89.5%) aged between 21 and 24 years old. The majority (89.5%) were involved in extracurricular activities. Everyone knew the "Child Handbook", 82.5% used it in practical activities, but 59.6% indicated that teaching about its filling could be improved. Conclusion: the knowledge about the booklet was unanimous among the nurses, however, they feel partially prepared. It is suggested to invest in the theme since graduation, aiming at the effective use of the instrument.

Maianne Keyla Macário Lira, Federal University of Pernambuco

Graduated in Nursing from the Federal University of Pernambuco-UFPE, Recife Campus - PE. She participated as a member of the research group Assistir/Cuidar em Enfermagem, research line Child development in early childhood, linked to the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and as a volunteer in the extension projects HumanizaREM, Além-Muros and H-cessível linked to the Hospital das Clinicas-UFPE. She worked as a monitor in the discipline of Nursing in Adult and Elderly Health in Primary Care II. She was a volunteer researcher and scholarship holder in the Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Scholarships (PIBIC), in 2020/2021 and 2021/2022, respectively, both linked to the Pro-Rectory of Research and Innovation (PROSPESQI) - UFPE.

Clara Gomes Carvalho Silva de Azevedo, Federal University of Pernambuco

Graduated in Nursing from the Federal University of Pernambuco, UFPE, Campus Recife - PE. She was a member of the research group Assistir/Cuidar em Enfermagem, a research line on Child Development in Early Childhood, linked to the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). She was a monitor for the discipline Nursing in Emergency Situations in the Community and was a volunteer for the Extension Project O Caminho and the H-Cessível Project. She was a research fellow in the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBIC) (2020/2021) linked to the Pro-Rectory of Research and Innovation (PROSPESQI) - UFPE and was a research fellow in the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBIC) (2021/2022) linked to the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).

Gabriela Cunha Schechtman Sette, Federal University of Pernambuco

Adjunct Professor of the Nursing Department of the Health Sciences Center of the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE, since 2010. She was Head of the Nursing Department at UFPE (2017-2021). She was Coordinator of the 3rd offering of the Postgraduate Course (Lato Sensu) Didactic-Pedagogical Specialization for Nursing Education in the distance learning modality (2019-2020). She was Vice-Head of the Nursing Department at UFPE (2015-2017). She was Vice-Coordinator of the Undergraduate Course in Nursing at the Health Sciences Center of UFPE (2013/2014). She was the Tutoring Coordinator for the 1st and 2nd classes of the Postgraduate Course (Lato Sensu) in Didactic-Pedagogical Specialization for Nursing Education in the distance learning modality (2010-2014). Post-Doctorate from the Centre for Health Service Studies at the University of Kent (Canterbury), United Kingdom (2014-2015). PhD in Child and Adolescent Health from UFPE (2010-2014). Nurse with professional practice in clinical pediatrics at the Instituto de Medicina Integral Professor Fernando Figueira - IMIP (2005-2010). Master's degree in Child and Adolescent Health from UFPE (2008-2010). She has been part of the Research Group "Assist/Care in Nursing" since 2008.

Gabriella de Araújo Gama Ferreira, Federal University of Pernambuco

PhD student in Nursing at the Federal University of Pernambuco - UFPE, Master in Nursing (2017) and Nurse (2014) at the Federal University of Alagoas - UFAL. She is currently a Public Servant of the State of Alagoas, assigned to the Children's Hospital - HC; Collaborating Professor in the Multiprofessional Health Residency Program in the Adult and Elderly area, at the Professor Alberto Antunes University Hospital - HUPAA / UFAL; Professor of preparatory courses for competitions and nursing residencies: Guidelines and Portal Contests; researcher of the CNPq groups: "Collective Health and Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health - UFPE" and "PROCUIDADO - UFAL"; and member of the extension projects "Caring for Nursing Students Through Integrative and Complementary Practices in Health in the Pandemic Context upon the Return of In-Person Activities - UFPE" and "Cuid(a)ção - UFAL". She worked as Assistant Substitute Professor A of the Public Health Sector at the School of Nursing of the Federal University of Alagoas EENF / UFAL from 2018 to 2020; Professor of the Nursing Course at the Mario Pontes Jucá University Center - UMJ from 2018 to 2020; Volunteer Professor at the School of Nursing and Pharmacy ESENFAR / UFAL in 2016 and as a Resident Nurse by the Multiprofessional Residency Program of the Professor Alberto Antunes University Hospital HUPAA / UFAL in 2017. During her academic life, she was a scholarship holder of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel - CAPES; scholarship holder of the Institutional Program of Scientific Initiation Scholarships - PIBIC / CNPq; Nursing Fundamentals Scholarship Monitor in the discipline of Nursing Intervention Methods and Processes I; and Scholarship Holder of the Education through Work for Health Program - PET-Saúde/VS.

Vilma Costa de Macêdo, Federal University of Pernambuco

She holds a degree in Nursing (2000), a master's degree in Public Health (2007) and a PhD in Child and Adolescent Health from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2015). She is currently an associate professor in the Department of Nursing, tutor of the Multiprofessional Residency in Family Health (UFPE), and a collaborator in the Postgraduate Programs in Nursing and Child and Adolescent Health. She is a member of the Ethics Committee of the Hospital das Clínicas da UFPE/EbSerh and of the International Network in Defense of the Right to Breastfeed (IBFAN-Brazil). She has experience in Public Health, with an emphasis on Health Care and Lines of Care, working mainly on the following topics: child health, health assessment, public health, breastfeeding and health education.
