Perception of nursing students on problem-based learning

Abstract

Aim: to reveal the students' perception about the problem-based learning. Method: this is a qualitative study carried out with 16 nursing undergraduates from a public university in the Southern Region of Brazil. Data were collected through individual interviews and submitted to content analysis. Results: three categories were identified: Awakening, researching and exchanging experience; Facilitating interpersonal relationships and the relation between theory and practice and lack of time to develop method. The students revealed that the problem-based learning method is a positive stimulus, because it enables the profitable relationship between students and tutors, correlating practice-theory. However, one of the greatest difficulties indicated about this method is the lack of time to develop it. Conclusion: the students perceived the method as an important and effective strategy in the teaching and learning processes.

Has experience in health education and works mainly with critically ill patients and violence against the elderly.

Maria José Quina Galdino, State University of Northern Paraná

Graduated in Nursing from the State University of Northern Paraná (2006). Specialist in Occupational Health Nursing (2008). Master in Nursing from the State University of Londrina (2015). PhD in Nursing from the State University of Maringá (2019). She is currently Associate Professor of Nursing at the State University of Northern Paraná - Luiz Meneghel Campus (UENP-CLM). Member of the Occupational Health Studies Center at the State University of Londrina (NUESTUEL) and the Nursing Services Management Teaching and Research Center (NEPGESE). Leader of the Research Group on Epidemiology, Health and Work (GESAT). Has experience in Nursing, working mainly in nursing fundamentals, management of health services and occupational health with the theme psychosocial occupational risks, especially burnout syndrome.

Julia Trevisan Martins, State University of Londrina

She is currently a doctoral student of the Graduate Program in Nursing at the State University of Maringá.
