Abstract

This paper presents basic concepts of disability studies, based on the work of theorists such as Tobin Siebers, Rosemarie Garland Thomson, and Thomas G. Couser, and proposes their application to the study of comics. In order to reflect on how people with visible physical disabilities are depicted in Brazilian fictional comics, we will analyze Cartilagem (2022), by Guazzelli et al., and Como pedra (2023) by Luckas Ionathan, focusing especially on how their bodies are depicted, the reproduction of stereotypes, and issues related to the right to live.
