Abstract

: In this article, we explore the process of (re)constitution of the history of the Portuguese Language, displayed in a permanent section of the Museum of the Portuguese Language, called Timeline. Based on the theoretical approach in discourse analysis, we examine the concept of time in the field of history, and analyze the relationship between language and time. Furthermore, we investigate the manner which, in the museum’s archives, the memory of language is established from temporal landmarks and events, which are linearly arranged, legitimizing the museum as a guardian of the memory and history of the Portuguese language.
