Abstract

We investigate in this study through theorical-methodological tools supplied by Discourse Analysis, how the communist and the communism were meant in Brazilian Catholic press in the 1930s. Among several Catholic newspapers that circulated at that time, we took for analysis the weekly newspaper A Cruz in the Archdiocese of Cuiabá (MT). In its discursive function, by the way it articulated the symbolic with the politic, this newspaper produced sense effects of satanization of the communism and communist, competing, in this way, for the social and political formation of Brazil.
