A TOGA E A MÍDIA: FORMAS DE CITAÇÃO E RELATO EM NOTÍCIAS SOBRE O PODER JUDICIÁRIO

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the representations of the Brazilian Judiciary system constructed by the media, from three episodes of confrontation between State powers, in the first year of Lula’s first government. We use the concept of representation from Systemic-Functional Grammar (Halliday; Matthiessen, 2004), the concepts of genre (Bazerman, 2005; Miller, 1984) and types of discourse (Maingueneau, 2008). First results indicate a key feature of genre in the context studied: the representation of the Judiciary system in the news is constituted, in most part, by the collage of quotations and reports.
