Development of a recreational-educational board game to discusses socio-environmental issues and to value local historical and cultural heritage: “Neighborhood is at Stake” in Barcarena (Pará, Brazil)

Abstract

The use of recreational-educational tools is a valuable alternative to the preparatory strategy aimed at environmental education, stimulating learning in a more active and creative way and directly assisting the cognitive development of students. In this context, this work is intended to produce a playful-educational game for the discussion of social and environmental problems and the valorization of the historical and cultural heritage of the city of Barcarena (Pará State, Brazil), which is also a tool for learning and learning activities. To this end, an adaptation of a table game called “Bairro em Jogo” (Neighborhood is at Stake) (ALVES; FIGUEIRÓ, 2010) was produced, which discusses socio-environmental problems from the locality through narratives in the form of local situation-problems. Initially, you were able to identify and localize socio-environmental conflicts that exist in different localities in the city of Barcarena-PA, which are transformed into problem-situations to be resolved by students within a playful-educational framework, always in search of solutions that We will see a higher quality of life (QV), which is the coin of the game play. The objective results include the production of 32 problem situations, 20 of which are classified as socio-environmental conflicts and/or city infrastructure discussions, 5 as questions of valorization of local historical-cultural heritage and 7 as “quick playing”, which involve particularities or playful curiosities of certain areas of the city. The experience of applying the game indicates its potential to promote discussions in the living context of students, contributing to the development of a critical and proactive view in order to be able to solve these socio-environmental problems.
