This study aims to analyze the landscape transformations in the Alto Jacuí watershed, through the dynamics of land use and land cover from 1987 to 2018. To this end, bibliographic research, utilization of geotechnology tools for thematic mapping and field work in the study area were performed. Among the results obtained, stands out, based on the land use and land cover maps of the Alto Jacuí watershed of the year 1987 and 2018, that during these 31 years, the main transformations of the landscape include the reduction of the areas of the Grassland which, from 6,106.69 km², that is, 46.73% of the total area of the Alto Jacuí watershed, now covers 1,560.77 km² in 2018, corresponding to 11.94%. Associated with this is the expansion of crop areas from 2,354.55 km² (18.02%) to 5,435.97 km² (41.60%). Consequently, such changes result in significant reconfiguration of geographic space and landscape through altering the natural and territorial dynamics. Given this, it is understood that one of the main challenges of the study area is to make the different land uses compatible with environmental protection. That way, it is expected that the results of this research can corroborate in the development of this thematic and contribute to the process of planning and environmental and territorial management of the Alto Jacuí watershed.
