Abstract

This article aims to explore the relationship between body, silence, rupture and violence of the word in the novel The Vegetarian (Chaesik-juija/채식주의자) (2007) by the South Korean writer Han Kang. The analysis has as starting point the discussion of the rupture and the violence of the word from interviews of the writer Han Kang and the theoretical work of Jacques Derrida. The discussion of the female body will be based on Judith Butler’s theory of gender and on criticism of Sohee Kim’s Neo-Confucian philosophy in South Korea.
