Application of visual grammar for compositional analysis of Brazilian sign language screens: designers-artisans and their visual solutions

Along with subtitles in Portuguese, Janelas de Libras are elements requested by the deaf community, aiming to meet linguistic accessibility requirements for what is mostly expressed orally in communication vehicles. Observing the visual solutions for Windows and the guides and manuals created to guide these productions, we noticed deviations from the standardization that highlight categories capable of bringing sensitive meanings to the communication of the deaf public through visuality. Therefore, the objective of this article is, through a set of videos selected from digital repositories, to present a set of basic visual elements observed in these artifacts, as well as their relationships and variations obtained from the analysis of composition and principles of visual grammar. We present the main highlights of each category, focusing on atypical visual solutions defined by designers and video editors, resulting from negotiations between pre-established parameters (legislation, guides and reference manuals) and market needs.
