http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/198050985737The juvenile wood presents great difference in your anatomical and physical properties in relation to the mature wood. That heterogeneity of the wood causes a series of upset for your process industry and processing. The present research work had as objective the study of the physical properties of the wood juvenile and mature of Pinus elliottii Engelm var. elliottii, with 25 years of age and of Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden, with 30 years of age, coming of the Experimental Station of Itapetininga and Forest – São Paulo, belonging to the Forest Institute of the state of São Paulo. For so much, of the both species, they were retired of radial boards, samples with dimensions of 20x30x50 mm, for the determination of the density, of the swelling and of the coefficient of shinkage of the juvenile and mature of Santa Bárbara State wood. The results of species showed that the mature wood compared with the juvenile wood they presented: (1) an increase in the values of the specific gravity, at 0% of moisture content and at 12% of moisture content, of the swelling volumetric and linear
