Abstract

Because in lentil (Lens culinaris Medic. Var. DF5) the tendril is a continuation of the petiole or rachis, by using permanent and temporary slides, an anatomical comparison between petiole or rachis and tendril was carried out. It was concluded that: 1. The volume of parenchymatous cells and epidermal cells, the stomatal index and the thickness of the tendril are smaller in the tendril than in the petiole; 2. there are five vascular bundles in the petiole and three in the tendril; 3. whereas the parenchyma around the vascular bundles of the tendril is lignified, this does not occur in the petiole.
