Abstract

Aeration in towns influences the urban climate. It is connected to geoecological and geourban factors which change the resulting air movement of Regional Circulation.

In the aeration of cities at local and urban levels, modifying elements connect to topography and the ones resulting from urbanization, are important.

Cities, due to their structure, surface characteristics and heat islands, exert rnechanical and thermal influences in the airstream, generating a specific circulation which is proportional do its size.

Studies undertaken in the city of Santa Maria-RS stress the site influence and urban structure an air movement. The knowledge of such self-circulation is an important factor to be taken into account in urban planning decisions.
