Abstract

Climate change (CC) and Extreme Weather Events (EWE) have a direct relationship due to the increase in global temperature, greater humidity in the atmosphere, rising sea levels, and changes in weather patterns that cause more frequent and severe extreme events such as hurricanes, cyclones, torrential rains, and isolated high-level depressions. This causal relationship is not reflected in the news coverage of the most important newspapers in Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and Spain during 2023. The most notable results reveal coverage characterized by conveying representations of damage with an emphasis on destruction, verbal attacks on political opponents, and ignoring positive or neutral aspects that speak of solutions or adaptation measures.
